We are guided by our Health and Safety Vision:"We all go home from work without injury or illness".
At Santos GLNG, safety is a core value. We are committed to conducting our business in a manner that prevents injury or illness to members of the community, our employees, and our contractors, and encourage best practice in health and safety management.
We believe that:
no business objective will take priority over health and safety - safety before schedule
all injuries and incidents are preventable
no task is so important or urgent that it cannot be done safely
without diminishing management's obligations, the responsibility and accountability for health and safety rests with every individual.
Santos GLNG has put in place a safety governance structure that has been designed to produce a consistent and aligned approach to safety management, with the goal of achieving international industry top quartile safety performance.
The Santos Environment, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) forms the backbone of our environment, health and safety (EHS) approach, enabling us to achieve our EHS objectives. The management system provides a strong foundation for achieving safety compliance under both the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Petroleum Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004 and subordinate regulations.
Santos GLNG has engaged Fluor (Upstream), Saipem (Pipeline) and Bechtel (Plant/Port) as the Principal Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractors for the Project. These EPC contractors are responsible for the management of health and safety of the people engaged to deliver their scope of work. Santos GLNG has carefully selected these Tier One contractors and will support and monitor them to ensure the risk of injury or disease to personnel is minimised.
A large number of non-EPC contractors have also been engaged by Santos GLNG to assist with the delivery of the Project and support existing operations. The selection and management of these contractors has a strong safety focus with EHS pre-qualification, Safety Management Plans and ongoing safety monitoring. Santos GLNG has an ongoing program to improve and strengthen our contractor safety management capability.
Santos GLNG is working collaboratively with the three other coal steam gas (CSG) companies to address common health and safety challenges confronting the CSG industry. Each CSG company's CEO provides guidance on the priority of collaborative safety initiatives and supports their delivery through the APPEA CSG Health, Safety and Operators Committee. Initiatives include land transportation, emergency response and contractor management.
The participating CSG companies have signed an agreement stating that they will not compete on safety and have pledged their commitment to working together to achieve world-class safety performance in the CSG industry.
