Flaring activity has commenced on site at Santos GLNG's Facility on Curtis Island.
The shape, size, and brightness of the flare can vary depending on operational activities, the weather and environmental conditions. This is part of normal operations.
Flaring is a normal part of industry in Gladstone and around the world to safely manage LNG production activities.
Combustion through flaring is the most environmentally efficient way to manage gas releases from the Santos GLNG facility and is part of the stringent safety controls that meet the requirements of the Queensland Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
More information on flaring is available in the Safety at Santos GLNG fact sheet.
